Fixed-term employment

On 28 May 2003, the Danish Parliament passed a bill on fixed-term employment which entered into force on 1 June 2003. The purpose of the act is to “prevent abuse resulting from several consecutive fixed-term employment contracts”. The act thus stipulates a number of limitations in the Faculty’s use of fixed-term employment contracts

Please note that LIFE became a part of the University of Copenhagen on 1 January 2007. The entire University of Copenhagen constitutes one single place of employment.

This means that if you come from one fixed-term job at the University of Copenhagen directly to another fixed-term job somewhere else at the University of Copenhagen, your previous jobs will be included under the Danish Act on Fixed-Term Employment.

This issue is relevant when you are employed in the same job category.

It will not pose a problem in connection with appointment of academic staff where the new job is in another job category, e.g. from assistant professor to associate professor as in accordance with the job structure, you ‘start counting from the beginning’ in these cases.
