"Let's dansk" campaign for international - and Danish - staff
With the subtitle “- Danish in a parallel language work context”, CIP (the University’s Centre for Internationalisation and Parallel Language Use) has just launched a “Let’s dansk” campaign to encourage international staff and Danish staff to speak Danish at work, thereby providing an opportunity for international staff members to practice their Danish and to learn.
Both Danish and English are used as working languages at the University of Copenhagen. This puts huge demands on the University's employees. With the campaign 'Let's dansk!', CIP aims to bring into focus the importance of the University's employees being prepared for speaking Danish in their workday at the University.
CIP offers a variety of Danish courses for international employees. However, Danish must also be learned outside the classroom, and that requires an effort from the international employees as well as from the day to day management and Danish colleagues.
Language should be learned where it's used
When an international employee starts learning Danish, it is crucial to get support from colleagues and to have a workplace that creates opportunities for using Danish in one's day to day work. As an inspiration CIP has initiated a Language Buddy Programme making it possible for the University's international employees to get linguistic support and guidance from their Danish colleagues.
