3rd Scientific Student Conference, Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS)
"Can Agriculture feed the World?” – the title of this year’s ELLS Scientific Student Conference (SSC), which will be hosted by Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR), The Netherlands, 20-21 October 2011.
LIFE would like to invite students to join the SSC in Wageningen. By participating in the SSC you get the opportunity to meet and network with students and academic staff from the other ELLS partner universities. Furthermore, you get the possibility to learn more about the ELLS network and the possibilities offered by the network in terms of student exchange and full degree programs.
A number of LIFE BSc, MSc and PhD (first year PhD students) students will get the chance to do a presentation or a poster at the SSC. The presentation and poster should relate to the student’s BA project, Master thesis or PhD project (or a project of at least 20 ECTS). Moreover, it should fit within one of the conference themes:
Innovation and Technology
Economy and Society
Ecology and Ethics
If you would like to apply, please submit an abstract of your contribution, a short academic CV and an application form (the application form is available at: www.ells-ssc2011.wur.nl/UK/Abstracts+and+proceedings/) to Lucy Møller, no later than 30 June 2011.
Student speakers and students who present a poster at the SSC will automatically be nominated for the ELLS Distinguished Fellowship. The Distinguished Fellowship is a grant which will be awarded to the best presentation and the best poster from each of the three SCC themes. Previously the grant was only awarded to students who wished to study at another ELLS partner university. This procedure has however been changed and all BSc, MSc and PhD (first years PhD students) student speakers and students who present a poster have a chance of winning the grant.
LIFE will finance transportation and accommodation for a number of participating students. The selected students will be informed shortly after the application deadline.
The official registration for all students opens on 1 September 2011. This includes students who have sent an abstract as well as students that wish to attend the SSC just as audience.
