Record number of international students at LIFE

International students are flocking to LIFE- Faculty of Life Sciences to study food, agriculture and environmental programmes. This year, the new MSc students come from 60 different countries.

The study slots at LIFE- Faculty of Life Sciences are in great demand. Not only do young Danish students want to study for instance agricultural economics, biology-biotechnology and food science at LIFE - the number of BSc applicants has increased by 36 per cent this year – but LIFE has also experienced a record number of international MSc applicants, a doubling compared to last year, which was also a record year! As a result, this year, LIFE has admitted 283 international MSc students from a total of 60 countries.

‘We are in a very desirable situation. This enhances our intercultural study environment and has a positive impact on classes’, says Agnete Vibholt, registrar at LIFE.

More researchers to Denmark
Many students come from Sweden, Germany and Spain, but there are also students from more faraway countries such as China, Uganda and Kasakhstan.

The large inflow of international students is welcomed by Danish organisations such as The Danish Agriculture and Food Council, where head of research and technology Morten Andersen Linnet thinks that there is a good chance that the international students will return to Denmark at a future date to work or conduct research. Graduates with an international background will also be able to make a positive contribution to the internationalisation of Danish companies, he says.

‘The large number of international students indicates a good study environment and study programmes of high international quality. LIFE should be praised for that. Being able to attract these international students shows that Denmark is one of the leading countries with the fields of agricultural and food research. We need to remain among the best so that we can continue to attract more researchers to Denmark in the future’, says Morten Andersen Linnet.
