What has to be financed in connection with a PhD project at LIFE?

BASICS

Financing for salary, project and courses
The financing of a PhD scholarship for a PhD student enrolled at LIFE, University of Copenhagen covers the salary, project funding for the PhD programme and PhD courses for a PhD student during the prescribed three-year period of full-time study.

LIFE PhD scholarships cover everything
If the PhD student obtains an ordinary PhD scholarship, all the expenses mentioned above are covered by LIFE, University of Copenhagen, i.e. the student receives a collective agreement-based salary transferred from LIFE, University of Copenhagen, which is paid via the appointing department, and the standard rate for project funding is transferred from LIFE, University of Copenhagen to the department.

As regards ordinary PhD scholarships, an amount of DKK 26,000 is earmarked annually for PhD courses etc.

The funding for PhD courses etc. is allocated as part of LIFE’s overall budget.

Standard rates
Applying standard rates, the total documented financing amounts to:

  • salary according to the collective agreement averaging DKK 372,000 per year,
  • project funds of DKK 60,000 per year and
  • PhD courses etc. of DKK 26,000 per year,
  • totalling DKK 458,000 annually for three years.

In addition, as concerns external funding, an overhead should be added at a standard rate of 44%, which means that the total amount is:

  • DKK 660,000 annually for three years incl. overhead.
Extra expenses in connection with extension must also be covered
Please note that extra expenses in connection with extensions etc. must be covered by the financing, i.e. a guarantee must be issued to the effect that all relevant payment obligations will be met during the course of the scholarship.
