University of Copenhagen ranked 48th in the world. - 13.10.2008

University of Copenhagen is the only Nordic university on the top 50 of the world’s best universities according to the 2008 edition of Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings. This year, University of Copenhagen is ranked number 48 worldwide and number 12 in Europe.

In the ranking survey, the universities are rated on several different criteria, including number of citations by the University’s researchers in scientific journals, peer reviews by researchers and interviews with the business community worldwide. This year, a record high number of researchers (6,354) have participated in the review part and their evaluation counts for 40 % of the total rating. Likewise, a high number of employers from the business world (2,339) have had their say on which universities they prefer job candidates from and their views represent 10 % of the total ranking material. The number of citations in scientific journals accounts for 20 % of the rating, as does the student-faculty ratio. Number of international faculty and students each count for 5 %.

Last year, the same ranking system placed University of Copenhagen as number 93 worldwide and the year before, in 2006, the University was ranked number 54. This shows that the results can vary quite significantly from year to year due to changes in method and the way data is collected.
