FONASO (Forest and Nature for Society) is a world-class Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Programme offered by a consortium that includes globally top ranked universities and leading research organisations. The programme builds on existing research schools and environments, taking the best from each to build up joint supervision, activities and doctoral candidate courses.
FONASO’s main objective is to educate the leaders of the future generation of researchers, teachers and top management staff working with sustainable forest and nature management, in both tropical and temperate regions, to ensure wider societal benefits.
FONOSA offers a:
- A fully integrated three-year doctoral programme
- Focus on the scientific fields of economics & policy and ecology & silviculture
- Emphasis on applied research and joint supervision
- Joint research with leading research and industry organisations in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America

There are 10 PhD scholarships available through the programme. Proficiency of English is required. The application deadline is 1 October 2010.
