Memorial ceremony honours one the greatest environmental campaigners of our time - 13.10.2011
On Friday 14 October, the Faculty of Life Sciences paid its respect to one of the greatest environmental campaigners of our time, the Kenyan professor and Nobel Peace Prizewinner Wangari Maathai who died on 25 September, aged 71. A tree was planted in the Life Science Gardens in her honour.
In addition to the title of honorary doctor at University of Copenhagen, professor Maathai received many distinctions and awards for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace in Kenya, including the Nobel Prize in 2004.
At the memorial ceremony, Centre Director of Forest and Landscape at LIFE- Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, Niels Elers Koch, planted a tree in memory of professor Wangari Maathai and her untiring work for a greener planet.
