A new Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen - 31.01.2012
As from 1 January 2012, as a result of a merger process, University of Copenhagen now has two new super faculties. The new Faculty of Science (in Danish ‘Det Natur- og Biovidenskabelige Fakultet’) is a merger between two thirds of the Faculty of Life Sciences and the “old” Faculty of Science.
The veterinary area becomes part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
The remaining part of the Faculty of Life Sciences which consists of the veterinary areas will be part of the new Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen.
Natural science and life sciences merge
Through the years, the former Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Science have developed close research collaboration . the new Faculty of Science is therefore based on coperation relations that will be further strengthened with the merger.
The size of the new faculty will provide even better opportunities for large strategic research projects combining basic research and applied research.
Strengthened collaboration
Also, as regards the development of new study programmes from BSc to PhD level, the merger provides new ways of strengthening collaboration with the private and public sectors and organisations.
The new Faculty of Science wishes to establish strong national and international partnerships to help solve global societal challenges such as population growth, sustainable energy supply, malnutrition and obesity, scarcity of resources and climate change.
