The quick guide to studying abroad
On these pages you will find general information on how to apply for a period of studies abroad. Click on the menu to find specific information about the specific type of studies abroad you are interested in applying for: Nordplus, Erasmus, Overseas or stay at a non-partner university.
Your first step – on the way out into the world…
Seek information!
Check the following websites for inspiration and information on possibilities:

3. WebPages of relevant partner universities.
Your second step -
Seek advice from the relevant people!
At Student Services you can:
- Seek inspiration from the reports from students that have studied abroad
- Look through the brochures and other information material from partner universities
- Get advice on how to fit studying abroad into you programme at LIFE
- Get information on possibilities for applying for grants, when to apply and how to apply
- Get help if you find you are stuck!
From your Director of Study or relevant professors/lecturers you can:
- Get advice on where to go, if you have specific areas of interest. They may be able to point you to where you would benefit the most from going!
Your third step…
Apply to study abroad!
At the Secretariat for Internationalisation or by contacting the you can:
- Get advice on how to apply to the different study abroad programs and grants
- Get information on what you need in order to apply – what is important to include and what you should NOT do…
- Get advice on how to apply for pre-approval of the course you want to study while abroad. See a list of examples of courses that have previously been approved.
- Hand in your application for ERASMUS and NORDPLUS (for overseas applications you apply online)
- Get advice on where to go, if you have specific areas of interest.
Your fourth step – and final step before departure….
Applying for admission at the partner University
– if your application has been accepted by LIFE/KU and you are nominated for studying abroad – the next step is to apply for admission at the university abroad!
If you are nominated to a LIFE partner, you will be:
- Contacted by the Secretariat for Internationalisation at LIFE by the who will help you apply for admission at the partner university.
- Invited for a meeting before you are leaving to prepare you for the study abroad period.
If you are nominated to a KU partner, you will be:
- contacted by the central International Office at the University of Copenhagen and invited for a meeting, where they will explain how you apply for admission at the partner university.
Students applying to universities that are not LIFE or KU partners will:
- have to apply for admission on their own.
The host University will:
- send you an official letter of admission.
- information on how to apply for visa if needed.
- send information on how to register for courses
- in most cases help you find a place to live!
At this point you are almost ready to go – you just need to buy your ticket and YOUR travel insurance – and you are set to GO……………..
Your fifth step – it’s time to go back home.….
Returning home

Before you go home – remember to:
- Have the documentation that you need to transfer you credits (Certificate of Participation and/or official transcript – if you cannot get your transcript before leaving, make sure it is sent to you)
Upon return you must:
- Fill in the online report/evaluation and budget at KUNET (you will get an e-mail that explains how to do it.)
- Upload the required documentation (see above)
- Apply for final approval of credits.
- Remember that returning home can also cause a cultural shock.
