Challenges and ways to tackle them

During the project “The Intercultural Classroom”, several of the lecturers mentioned many of the same challenges. In the process of trying to deal with these challenges they gained experience that could benefit other lecturers. The challenges are listed below. The challenges

 

• The students have different academic levels
• The students have different academic backgrounds
• Choosing cases and context: Danish, Spanish, African? 
• It can be hard to figure out the relationship between teacher and student
• The students are quiet/inactive in class
• The class is divided into cultural groups that do not interact
• The students do not understand the lecturer
• The international students do not understand the way an exam is conducted
• Group work does not function as intended
• How should groups be formed?
