This is great work and very relevant in African development discourse. My comments are as follows:
- Be careful not to generalise the farming problems from region to region and village to village. Currently, many small farmers are being encouraged to move from organic farming to genetically modified methods because of higher yields
- Also consider the difference between small farmers who sell commercially and subsistence farmers who provide for their families and sell the surplus. These groups have different needs.
A great place to start both projects would be by analysing those existing projects that are similar to what the students want to implement. After analysing these projects, they can see what the challenges where and improve on them. |

This project would be a challenge and needs to be well planned. Like the panel has said what about Micro credit and sustainability? My answer would be in Uganda to identify the national umbrella NGO body that comprises of farmers association and groups and build the capacity of that body both in terms of resources and training for project sustainability and they would proceed to the local level with Danish Volunteers to have step-down activities within the targeted and set up a national and decentralized micro-credit scheme.
NOTE: You may want to partner with the private sector and financial institutions on this project.
The project is a very romantic one that needs to be re-designed and re-defined if possible.
