Be confident in neurological diagnostics, treatment and prognostics

Confident in the discrimination between neurological and non-neurological disorders

Confident in the discrimination between central, periferal and autonomic nervous systems

Confident in the discrimination between upper and lower motor neuron

Trained to investigate, diagnose and treat neurological disorders.

Able to distinguish between congenital and acquired neurological conditions

Confident in recognizing the manifestations of common neurological conditions (degenerative, autoimmune, metabolic, neoplatic, idiopathic, inflammatory/infectious, traumatic) for instance epilepsy, space-occupying lesions, aseptic meningitis.

Skills in how to journalize and to educate animal owners.

LFKM10374 Companion Animal Neurology - Advanced Diagnostic Approach to the Neurological Patient. Autumn 2013

Further development of the diagnostic skills of the student within the discipline of veterinary neurology in companion animals. Conventional imaging of the spine will be included as well as advanced image modalities such as Computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Both image interpretation and medical physics, indication and pros and cons of the modalities will be a part of the course.

Cases of neurological patients and clinical work-up will be used to demonstrate the above-described disciplines.

LFKM10375 Companion Animal Neurology - Advanced Clinical Neurology. Spring 2014

At this course the student should be able to combine knowledge from paraclinical disciplines as diagnostics imaging, cytology and haematological (including serology) with the clinical finding at an advanced level. Video-case sessions will be included in the course. A wet-lab practice of cerebrospinal fluid tap and interpretation will be included as well. The student will rotate in the neurology service at the small animal university hospital. A case-log is compulsory in this part of the master education.
